Extension of toll road network in Germany

25.04.2018
As of July 1st, 2018, trucks will be subject to road tolls on all German national highways and state roads.

All national and international vehicles with a permissible maximum weight of at least 7.5 tonnes will be subject to the toll.
Until now, the toll has been applicable to national highways and certain state roads only (inclusive of service and rest areas), covering a total road infrastructure of 15’000 kms.

In the wake of the extension of the toll road network, its total length will be increased to about 40’000 kms.

The toll amount is being calculated based on the total distance that the vehicle covers on toll roads, its pollutant emission category and number of axles.

The German Freight Forwarders’ and Logistics Association (DSLV) is forecasting higher transportation costs as a direct result of the aforementioned measure. However, the exact amounts per planned trip cannot be calculated as yet.

More information will follow in due course.
